Meet the Cookout crew this Saturday, August 8th! We’ll be giving away half loaves of bread on South Portland between Lafayette and Dekalb in Fort Greene from 2-6 pm. We’ll also have cherry apricot granola and copies of Maria’s seasonal veggie chart for sale.
If you can’t come by in person, you can always place an order by emailing cookoutbk@gmail.com.
Kitchen Report
This week Maria and I fully actualized our quarantine selves when we made homemade Crunchwrap Supremes—that marvel of modern ingenuity from Taco Bell—and let me tell you, the world feels a little brighter today (Cheesier? More hexagonal?).
We went with the classic preparation: a big flour tortilla layered with heavily seasoned ground beef, queso, tostada, sour cream, pico, lettuce, and more cheese. The variations are endless as long as you stick with a few core tenets: soft/crunchy, creamy, fatty and salty.
Instead of beef try refried beans. Swap the tortilla for pita and add tzatziki and shawarma or tahini and falafel. Enjoy your little invention while reflecting on the strange gifts of consumer culture. See you on Saturday.
What’s Cookout?
Cookout is good food made by Bryan Sloss in Brooklyn, New York. It’s pantry staples like breads, pickles, and jams. It’s also condiments you didn’t know you needed, sauces to simplify meal-making, and sweet treats just for fun. Available for pick up in Brooklyn on a weekly basis.
